Fabrics We offer a huge range of soft furnishing fabrics from the leading fabric suppliers such as, Romo, Sunbury and Crowson for our own re-upholstery work and customer's DIY use.

Important considerations when purchasing a fabric are colour, the fabrics resistance to wear and flame retardancy.

Colour

To ensure your choosen fabric's suitability with your existing decor, you should check the samples in both natural and artificial light as sometimes they can appear quite different. Most importantly, the pattern book sample is only a representative sample and differences in shade often occur in fabrics from different batches. Most suppliers can provide us with a cutting sample from their stock so you can ensure the shade you see is actually what you get.

Wear

The fabric's thickness or expense are not suitable guides to how well the fabric will wear - the only real guide is the Martindale rub test number which should be present on most of the fabrics we supply and indicates the number of rubs applied before the fabric starts to wear.

Flame Retardancy

FR For re-upholstery, we ensure that the furniture we cover complies with the Furniture & Furnishings (Fire) (Safety) Regulations 1988, which requires that both cover fabric and filling must be fire retardant. However, many fabric manufacturers do produce non-FR (Fire Retardant) fabrics and we would strongly advise that the fabric is either FR treated or an Fire Retardant interliner is incorporated when purchased for DIY use.
